Saw a flyer at my hotel advertising a wet season deal, $30 a day for a town car! Called up and had my car just a few hours later. Considering the airport shuttle from Cable Beach is $15 and a taxi from Broome to Cable Beach is $20, it made sense to pay few dollars extra to have a hire car for a whole day and get out and see the sights around Broome. I picked up the car from the office (nearest bus stop is the Visitor's Centre) and dropped it off at the airport. The drop off location is a few minutes walk from the airport but in the heat I decided to park right at the short term parking directly in front of the terminal (2 hours free), check-in, then drive into town for a mango smoothie begore dropping the car off. The service was great, the car was an almost new Toyota Carolla (I had expected a tiny, older car for the price!)
Firstly, Broome is expensive! So this review is relative.eg. taxi town to airport/cable beach is about $25 each way or a hot walk. Uber type services do not operate in Broome.Secondly, five stars for this experience.My local friend dropped me off at Broome Broome car hire 4.30pm. They were to close at 5. The other car hire places were shut/no one ever seemed around and they did not respond to my emails.I waited at Broome Broome as two guys were loading the truck. About 4.45 I ask one of the truck guys about the car hire and he tells me that car pickup is a different location in town. So he phoned the office, who picked me up and arranged a hire car quickly after five pm. Really appreciated it.COSTS:---------------*warning - the other major car hire places advertise low rates but the reality are high costs/conditions.Car hire one day $107.81 (Hyundai I30)* included $25 nil excess extra** 100km maximum (basically around town)Plus charged extra extra $26.25 for driving 192km total.Plus refuel cost me $19.38 (petrol is expensive $175.7 cents per litre at the time.)So really about $154 for the day but Broome is expensive generally and I really appreciated the nice local service.Car hire one day
